The style varies a lot, even within one medium because of experimentation or the subject. Soft shadowing does seem to prevail though.

Two Sides - Agree, but somehow both of them cant be shown at the same time...
we must conform to the world, on the other side there's something aroused which need to be satisfied (I'm not only talks about sexual things here)

Non-sexual - The two sides is about everything. And yeah, showing them at the same time is practically impossible.
