I cried. It wasn't very loud or big. Everything together just made me release all those little tears I still had and never gave way. It felt so good to let them go, so lovely to feel them flow over my cheeks. I never felt the need to sob, to shiver. It was just the tears that needed to be there. I cried, but I was happy.
Nuru held me tight while I cried, Faith sat just in front of me, touching my face with her hand. It was so romantic and lovely, a smile danced on my wet lips. Almost by accident, my head relaxed and fell onto Nuru's shoulder. I wasn't used to being the middle of attention. But for once I let it be.
"Thank you, both of you." My voice ever so soft and subtle.
I opened my eyes and I could see. But it was odd, the forest was in plain daylight. And it didn't look like a small forest, this was a deep forest. Mid autumn, with the rain not too long ago, the colored leaves on the ground. Everything in lovely shades of yellow, red and brown.
A noise in the forest, a girl crying. She wasn't far away and sounded too young to be a danger. I walked in her direction and soon spotted her. A girl in a simple bleached dress that looked a bit timeless. She looked younger than I was, but when I looked at my hands, I looked younger as well. And different.
Was this a dream?
I knelt down next to her. "Is there something wrong?"
The girl looked up at me with red eyes from her crying. "I'm supposed to find these flowers for my mother, but I need a lot more than the two I already have to heal her. But I can't find them anywhere anymore. I don't know what to do..."
The flowers in the basket were a bright, sky blue that was so intense as to be unreal. They had a nice smell too, like fresh honey mixed with a hint of mint. They looked so pretty, I couldn't imagine she had trouble finding them.
I smiled at her. "Shall we look together then? Two eyes see more than one."
She smiled. "Would you?"
I nodded. "Of course.
We started looking around the area I found her. "Your mother is sick?"
She nodded sadly. "Yes, but these flowers will help her, she taught me all about them!" She spoke proudly of her knowledge.
Something almost shone from underneath a bush. "I think I see one!"
Pushing away the branches of the bush we found one of the pretty flowers. Both of us almost did a victory dance upon finding it and it gave her visibly new hope of finding enough. With renewed vigor both of us continued to look for more.
We were like old friends, walking forest hand in hand, searching for the flowers. Sometimes we hummed a tune, other times we sang together. An hour passed, then some more. After that I didn't know how much time I had been spending here. And I didn't even know if the time had actually passed. I knew several hours had passed, but it felt like only a second.
Again I doubted myself, was this real?
But after enough time, we had collected a full basket of those pretty blue flowers. The girl looked much happier, proud even. Both our hands were dirty from all the searching we had done for the flowers. Some of them were hidden sneakily under bushes, behind rocks or in the crevice of a tree. Almost as if the flowers had been playing hide and seek with us, teasing us over and over again every time we found one. But it mattered no longer, we were done.
She smiled. "Thank you so much, this is perfect. I'm sure I will be able to help my mother get better."
I smiled back at her. "I'm glad I could help you."
It was all so familiar. If this was a dream, did I know this story?
She fumbled with something in the front pocket of her dress. "I... I've got something for you. As thanks. But you have to close your eyes and hold out your hands."
A strange request, but I felt safe and smiled. "Alright." Closing my eyes as per her request.
She put something in my hands, it felt strangely heavy and light at the same time. And it felt familiar. I opened my eyes and looked at the object that she gave me.
It was a bracelet, a beautiful silver bracelet with a blue moonstone set into it. I knew this bracelet! But it was not on my wrist, neither was the necklace around my neck. The girl had vanished as well without so much as a twig breaking.
For a moment I stood there, lost and confused.
I knew this dream.
Voices, Faith and Nuru were speaking to me. "Amy, are you alright?" "Miss Amy, what do you see?"
What happened?
