Chapter 152A Focus that Wavers

I wasn't sure why exactly, but the thought of adventure made me smile. It would be midnight again, the site across from the hotel. I knew where it was. And I would travel alone, Hitori couldn't come with me on this. In fact, it would be safer for him to stay here as Anka may return or Nuru needed anything.

There was a noise from her bedroom. She stepped out sleepily with nothing but some sheets around her body. I found it strangely erotic to look at her though I didn't know if it was just her or mixed with the adrenaline buzz from the note.

She smiled so cutely. She's becoming more human every day.

And more of a woman too, I felt.

Not for the first time I wondered if the change in me, becoming a vampire, made me less inclined to only look at boys. But to be fair I'd never looked at either much before everything. I could appreciate a cutey, in either gender, but besides a passing glance I was always too busy in my head.

"You can trust him." Nuru spoke softly, still a bit hazy.

"I know, I feel it too." I smiled back nicely, my eyes still following the movement of the blankets around her. It was fascinating.

"Can I have something to eat?" Nuru almost looked apologetic for asking.

Hitori looked so confused but rallied himself nervously. "Eh, of course!" He looked at me. "If you tell me what's going on here..."

He walked back to the stove and got another plate from an upper cabinet. He filled it up nicely and got a knife and a fork from one of the drawers near the stove. He even poured a glass of water for her and put all of it on the table. It was kind of cute he didn't say anything about her apparel. Maybe he liked it as much as I did, though it didn't seem to really faze him.

I moved back to the sofa and semi-dragged Nuru down with me. I felt energetic again though I still needed sustenance. But I wasn't going to tell... Hmm... Perhaps I should tell Hitori. I should... But after dinner, Nuru deserved some attention first.

She took the plate gently after I released her and handed it to her. Taking a fork gingerly to her mouth while holding the blankets to her chest she tried some of it. After the first bite she smiled and had a few more bites. Hitori was grinning widely as he saw her eating more and more greedily. I guess she was really hungry.

I knew I could do with a bite...

No! I had to wait with that. I didn't want to bite either of them. I felt strangely uncomfortable drinking blood from those I knew. Would I drink my mother if I needed to?

I'd sincerely try to avoid it. Where was she anyway? With everything happening I hadn't actively looked for her as much as I should have.

I'd completely missed Hitori and Nuru finishing their food. Hitori had been eating with chopsticks and a lot slower than Nuru, but half-way through her plate Nuru had slowed down a lot with a blush on her face. She probably felt impolite. She still looked erotically cute in that blanket.

My thoughts were so foggy, I really needed some blood.

Clothes... I needed to stop thinking of myself. Nuru needed clothes. Perhaps we could buy some in town and I could leave before midnight. That should work.

"Thank you, Master Hitori. It was delicious." Nuru smiled, holding her empty plate.

Hitori smiled. "Do you want some more?"

She shook her head. "No, this was perfect, Master Hitori."

I wonder if I could ask it of her. "Nuru?"

"Yes, Miss Amy?" She looked at me openly.

I took a deep breath. "It's kind of important so I want you to try not using titles for people. Either call them by their name or let it be implied in a conversation. Especially since we're probably going into town, it will help you to fit in. Also, I don't want to think of you as a servant to me. You're my friend and I want you to develop."

Hitori looked surprised but nodded at my words. Nuru simply looked at me with an odd expression on her face, as if she was working something out. She was probably taught a lot about manners and etiquette in a very specific, limited, way. She did act very intelligent on her own though, her research had been very precise and complete.

"I... will try." Nuru spoke a bit troubled, but she looked thankful.

Perhaps a sharp mind was needed to receive those dreams, those premonitions. I knew I wasn't stupid, and neither was Khuna or Valerie. And Kai was definitely a very intelligent guy. I guess that was another common factor between us all. The children at the orphanage didn't seem stupid either. And Isabel... She was devilishly intelligent.

A thought for another time. I really felt I couldn't hold my mind to the moment. I really needed some blood.

"Hitori, I need to drink."

Both of them looked up in surprise. Nuru actually seemed to think of offering herself to me, I didn't want that.

"No, not one of you. And I want to go into town, buy some clothes for Nuru."

Nuru held her proposal back and nodded. Hitori looked a bit bewildered, I guess he still wasn't used to all of this. Suddenly his eyes changed, a thought clearly entered his mind to help him solve this conundrum.

"Alright. We'll go into town and buy some stuff for Nuru, after you've had what you need." Hitiori smiled.

"But I want to see it."
