Chapter 175Moments to Forget

The streets passed us by, but I couldn't do this with Nuru. This time I had to bring her back to Hitori, things were getting to dangerous. She'd stayed silent ever since I forced Marius to talk. Something about her made me worried. Had I shown a side of myself she'd rather not see?

Should I ask her?

"Miss Amy?" She was using the title again, she must have been feeling very insecure.

"Yes, Nuru?"

"What you did... to him... Did you do that before?"

"The... mental pushing?"

She nodded silently.

"I think I did. I've done it a few times without knowing, but once after I had been left out in the sun I needed blood very badly. I pushed the fear away in the guy whose blood I took. I don't think he will even remember what I did. Maybe a dream, hidden in his subconscious."

She thought on this. "So you've only used it when you felt like you had no other way?"

I nodded. "Kind of, I was really angry at him, I knew he'd done something to Khuna and Valerie, but not what. And I didn't want to use physical force to make him talk."

She took a deep breath. "You were scary."

I sighed. "I'm sorry, I felt I had no other way, something in him made me do it this way. I hope I didn't scare you too much."

She smiled brightly at me. "No, I'm proud of Miss Amy. You found a way to make him talk without really hurting him." She winked at me with the formal use of my name. It was cute.

With lifted spirits and the anger momentarily forgotten we walked back to Hitori's house. It was like normal again for the moment being, two friends walking happily together. We didn't play tag this time and the few attempts at singing ended rather oddly, Nuru didn't know the words. Still, we walked, talked and skipped happily until we reached Hitori's house.

Anka opened the door for us and let us in, Hitori smiled when we walked into the living room. It briefly made me wonder, Anka was the one opening the door most of the times. Was she the one doing it? Knowing Hitori he didn't mind and just let her if she wanted to. There were some lingering smells from Hitori's more exotic cooking, but the kitchen was nice and clean. I supposed they'd done the dishes already.

"Amy, Nuru, you're back!" Hitori got up and smiled. "We were almost bored to tears without you two."

Nuru blushed, I just giggled. "What did you do?"

"Well..." Hitori sounded a little more serious. "I've done the groceries and cleaned up a lot, as you can see. And I walked in the park with Anka this afternoon, we saw a beautiful White Shepherd there, such a beautiful dog." He smiled as he ended the sentence. "How did you to do?"

"My mom was home, I've only seen her once since I've been turned. I loved seeing her again and she's very understanding, even if I don't feel she can grasp it completely."

"You told her?" Hitori frowned, but kept his smile.

I nodded. "I had to. I also found out where my friends are, I'm going there now. I came here first because it would be too dangerous for Nuru."

Hitori nodded. "Alright, but you're not going to do that now, there is something else you need to do first."

"What?"

"Visit something."

"Visit?"

"Her grave."

How stupid of me, I'd completely forgotten. But it would bring me the peace I needed, to gather my thoughts and strength for the coming battle. Hitori was right, I should visit her grave first before I rescued Khuna and Valerie. It would clear my head and allow me to say goodbye.

And maybe even dare to say sorry.
