He smiled and took the three steps required to stand next to me. A moment later his arms were around me and we were embracing each other. My mind skipped the awkward steps in between where he wasn't sure if he should, I wasn't sure if I should answer and the relief when it finally happened.
And then the kiss.
I hadn't been waiting for it.
Yes, I had.
It wasn't even perfectly clear to me if it was me that kissed him first. It could very well be. There was a slight taste of surprise on his lips when he answered. But it was good. It was perfect. Anka was surprisingly quiet while all of this happened. Despite of her teasing sisterly ways, she did recognize a tender moment when it happened and let it be.
We released each other. Hitori spoke first. "Nuru will be so happy that you're here."
I smiled. "I'm sure she will be, but mostly I'm happy to see you again."
He smiled. "I noticed."
Anka interrupted. "Can we go inside, it's almost morning."
"Isn't that my line?"
She giggled. "Yes, but you're distracted."
We all headed upstairs. I was surprised, now that I thought about it, that Anka had not brought anything of herself to stay here. But then again, she wasn't planning on staying very long. Anka went into the room where, presumably, Nuru was sleeping after she kissed her brother goodnight. I was left with Hitori in the living room, a little at a loss of what to do.
"Well, what happened to you Amy?'
So I told him a lot of what happened. There wasn't enough time for everything, but we went to bed together and slept. Yes, slept, nothing more. I'd been too overwhelmed to think about writing then. The next night, Nuru was there, waiting for me to get up. Hitori as well, but he'd crawled back into bed with me apparently.
Nuru was so happy to see me. Though she hadn't been able to contain her curiosity. After she woke up with Anka next to her, she had, as she said. 'Sneaked her way into Hitori's bedroom to make sure her lady was there.' And there I had been, sleeping like a baby. Or rather a vampire.
Anka is about to be picked up in a few minutes. I've thought about what I'd do with the things I've written down and decided I'd let her transcribe them and put them on-line. I've retreated into the bedroom and used the desk there to write on. The pen is flying over the paper as I'm noting this down. Maybe this was already faster than any human could write, I didn't know. It wasn't important.
For anyone that reads this, this will be the last you'll hear of me for, perhaps, a while. But I'm sure that I won't be able to refuse the pull of the pen for too long.
Fare thee well my companions.
