I stood in the middle of the living room and took a deep breath. I had only just walked out of the bathroom but both of them waited for me to talk, feeling it was a moment for patience. I knew I had to tell him, even if he didn't believe me, but otherwise I wouldn't be able to face myself.
"I've got something to say." With a gentle smile.
They kept their silence in respectful patience.
"You've seen me acting a bit strange and things that would be very hard for me to do. There is a simple explanation but I'm not sure you'd accept it." I paused.
"Go ahead..." Hitori's kind voice.
A deep breath. "I'm a vampire."
Both Anka and Hitori looked at me in disbelief. Yet there was something in their eyes that believed what I said. Their mind said them it wasn't possible. Their hearts told them I spoke the truth. Especially Hitori went through his memories of me looking for evidence. And maybe he did find it. I was only with him in the evening, looked pale and kissed him in his neck a lot. Of course all just circumstantial evidence and he was well aware of it.
"Do you drink blood?" Hitori finally asked.
I nodded meekly. "Yes."
"Mine?" His voice soft.
Again a meek nod. "Yes. Last night was too much. That's why you fainted."
He looked thoughtful for a moment. Anka, in the meantime had kept on staring at me, her eyes judging all of me. I wasn't quite sure what the end conclusion was of her observations but a faint smile never left her lips. Those lovely ... No, keep your head straight. The moment was fragile enough as it was.
I had never felt lust before. Not with Khuna, not with Hitori. But my body longed... And I had no way to deal with it. This was so not the time.
"I'm not sure I can believe you. I want to, but it's just so unreal." His eyes honest and open.
I sighed and took the knife off his plate before he could respond. It was mostly clean so I just made a cut in my arm. The knife was sharp enough to make a decent enough cut but I made sure not to cut too deep. Hitori put his plate on the table and almost jumped to stand next to me, grabbing my arm.
But it was a simple wound, one that healed a little as he looked. It would still be visible as a faint line but the cut itself was closing in front of him, nothing more than a single drop of blood even left the wound. He looked at it in disbelief and slowly looked in my eyes. Sitting down again.
"Okay. I believe you." Filled with intonations of awe and fear.
Anka just kept her gentle smile and silence, her eyes never leaving me.
"And blood of others?" He asked it, knowing the answer and not wanting to know.
"Yes." I wanted to say the truth, but not hurt him any more.
"Eh... since when?" He didn't know how else to ask. Anka sat up a bit more attentively, she really wanted to know this.
"Only a week ago, well, eight days." I fumbled with my skirt.
Anka moved a bit oddly on the couch, as if she was rubbing her legs together. She looked uncomfortable and I had a feeling she was still feeling the same attraction I did. Hitori didn't notice.
I certainly did and it confused me.
"I don't know... I... like you Amy... But this..." He stumbled over his words.
"I'm sorry." A feeling of guilt washing over me, covering everything else, my head hanging down.
Anka got up slowly and quietly. She moved toward me and completely caught me off guard by kissing me, pushing her body against mine in a move so intense I could not even think of resisting. I surrendered as her tongue was pushed between my lips and we were locked in an intimate dance. It was lust, a feeling I had never felt this strong before. I remembered it from my dreams, as a feeling in the background. But no longer. Center stage, in the spotlight. A lust I couldn't resist, even if I wanted to. Our bodies pressed together, our hands caressing each otherss head and our tongues still intertwined. It only took a moment, but it was a moment so intense that echoes of it kept haunting me.
She let go and looked at me defiantly, standing ever so close. Her voice slightly mocking as if she tried to make sense of her own head. "No one will ever believe I've kissed a beautiful vampire girl."
Hitori, still sitting on the couch, just stared open-mouthed. He looked from me to Anka. "Why?" He whispered to her.
His eyes turned darker, a decision made. "No! I'll talk to you later Anka." A deep, quick breath. "Amy, I want you to go and I don't want to see you again."
I opened my mouth to say something but his eyes stopped me. He didn't just fear me. He felt betrayed. Instinctively I reached out for him but let my hand drop to my side. I turned around and left through the door, walked down the stairs and out into the streets.
The streets didn't welcome me. They felt cold, not heated by the late summer warmth. They felt hostile without anyone even there. Yet they looked as if crowds with torches and pitchforks would come for me. First wishing to roast me on a large bonfire but then looking at me and dissecting me to find out how it all worked. Despite the light, despite no crowds anywhere in sight, despite it being quiet and safe... The streets didn't welcome me.
I never felt so alone.
