Chapter 191The Last Fall

My mind flicked back to the past. My father was never the type for mysterious things. Just a quiet, if somewhat boring, man that made my mother happy. He did appear quite intelligent, which didn't surprise me that much, but he never seemed to do much with it. Strangely enough I wasn't quite sure what work he did. I wondered if my mother knew.

To be honest, I never asked either of them what they did or how it was. Always busy with my own things. They never talked about it either. They just worked and came home, making sure there was food and everything. Likewise, they barely asked me what I did in a day.

No matter how much I went back into my past, nothing had ever really seemed out of the ordinary except for myself. I never fitted in and noticed my different way of thinking from the people around me. Besides that, however, I didn't consider my life any different from theirs.

Until I got changed.

Brian Taylor... rarely did I use my fathers name. It was just odd to use his name for anything. 'My dad', 'Father' even 'Daddy' when I tried to mock him. He bought me books and went into town with me, but besides that I never really had a bond with him. And with everything he had done I didn't want to remember him as my dad.

He was Jason now.

Something had changed, I panicked when I realized what the change was. Some things, like walking, it is so automatic, that you get a startle when it's interrupted by something out of place. Like tripping over a rock. Infortunately this time the change was something I had too little power over and in result, panic.

You know, I always prided myself on staying calm in most situations. Thinking clearly in situations where others would rush into action, destroying more than they saved.

But now, the surprise, the shock of my father being Jason, the one who had orchestrated so much terrible things. The children, Nuru, capturing my friends. It just didn't fit into my head.

So I fell..

Flying actually takes some concentrating while you're in the air, almost like keeping your balance. The distraction of my memories and the shock of finding out it's really him caused me to lose my precious balance.

And fall.

...

Oddly, it took me a few moments while I was already falling to realize the ground was closing in. It can't have been that high up, but the time it took to reach the ground from a second floor was surprisingly long.

My body sharpened as I realized I couldn't change my predicament and, with catlike reflexes, it acted all on it's own. I turned in the flight, enough to have my hands and feet below me to absorb the shock.

With a heavy sound I fell on the stones. My body did well, besides some chafing on my hands I was unhurt. But not unheard.

The house was suddenly filled with people talking. The kitchen door was closest to me and I could just imagine someone running out and noticing a girl, me, on her hands and feet on the pavement. Not good.

Acting purely on my reflexes I jumped and half-flew up to the roof again, as quick as I could. Downstairs were people coming out of the mansion, looking around to see if there was anything there.

Even my f... Jason came outside, looking angry. "What's this all about?"

The man who had been previously sitting in the kitchen looked apologetic. "There was a noise outside and I'm sure I saw a flash of something or someone here."

He almost growled. "Then what are you waiting for? Search the grounds? It's probably another kid."

The man nodded subserviently and walked off to start looking. The two cleaners shrugged and started going back inside, but were stopped by Jason as well.

"No, you're looking as well. I've got too many people looking through the city already and I want the ground searched immediately."

"Sir." They replied and started walking the grounds as well.

Despite this accident and the resulting chaos downstairs, this was perfect. All of them except the guy in the basement and Jason himself were out of the house and looking over the grounds. With the door open.

With a smile I realized my stupid little panic had given me a way in.

Into the mansion.
